Android Volume Bug Tied To Accessibility

Android Select to Speak icon.

An Android volume bug tied to an accessibility feature is causing volume buttons to adjust the wrong audio stream and break certain shortcuts, due to the ‘Select to Speak’ accessibility feature.

Google has acknowledged the issue and confirmed a fix is in development, though no official timeline or device list was given.

As a temporary workaround, users can disable ‘Select to Speak’ via Settings, or manually adjust volume through Sound settings and use on-screen controls for affected apps.

The bug is especially disruptive for users who rely on accessibility features, affecting core functions such as text-to-speech and camera shortcuts.

A fix will likely be delivered via the Play Store through an update to the Android Accessibility Suite, so users should keep system and app updates enabled.
