Yeovil’s dyslexic MP Adam Dance demands a sincere apology from Trump after the US President said people with learning disabilities should not be president. Dance called the remarks “deeply troubling, offensive, and completely out of step with reality”.
Trump said he supports people with learning disabilities but believes a president should not have them, made the comment about California governor Gavin Newsom, and acknowledged it was controversial.
The White House doubled down on its criticism of Newsom when approached by the BBC; the British Dyslexia Association estimates dyslexia affects around 10% of the population.
Dance urged colleagues to reject discriminatory rhetoric, stressed dyslexia does not limit leadership ability, and noted public support efforts such as TV chef Jamie Oliver joining his campaign for neurodivergent children.
