Senator Stephanie Chang introduced Senate Bill 764 to improve movie accessibility for Michigan residents who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The bill would require theaters with eight or more screens or with frequent showings to provide at least two weekly Open Movie Captioning screenings for the first three weeks of a film’s release.
Moviegoers can also request additional captioned screenings after the initial three-week period, with theaters required to comply under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
