ADA Title II Deadline has been extended

The Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division issued an interim final rule revising ADA Title II web and mobile app accessibility regulations. The ADA Title II deadline has been extended by a year.

The rule extends compliance deadlines: larger State and local government entities (population 50,000+) from April 24, 2026 to April 26, 2027, and smaller entities/special districts from April 26, 2027 to April 26, 2028.

The interim final rule becomes effective April 20, 2026, and the Department is accepting public comments until June 22, 2026.

The Department says the extension is intended to give public entities more time to comply, while noting it has already provided substantial technical assistance.
